Joel Santana, the beleaguered South African national coach has quit.
SAFA announced that they had accepted his resignation this afternoon. This follows loud calls for his head to roll from many quarters. Although the national side faired relatively well in the Confederations Cup earlier this year they were not able to win a single international friendly match in Europe. They should have least have won one of their last two matches against European minnows Norway and Iceland.
The debate is now who will take over the job of building up a demoralized side to give South Africa at least some credibility when they host the World Cup in 2010. Carlos Alberto Parreira who had to quit the post early in South Africa’s preparations, due to personal reasons, says he is ready to return but SAFA may look to local talent in Jomo Sono, Clive Barker or Gordon Igesund.
Let’s hope that whoever gets the job is able to motivate the boys and get all the international players into the side and committed.

Clive Barker should get the job
Isn’t he a bit old?
Perhaps Parreira should return due to his international experience?
Gavin Hunt is the best South African coach . lets see him in charge!! … or more than liekly expect another overpaid foreigner
