Iceland 1 : South Africa 0 (International Friendly)
Although even before the kick-off Bafana-Bafana had it’s back against the wall in Reykjavic, Iceland, the team, coach and country really needed a win to raise the spirits in the lead up to the World Cup next year.
For the last two games the South Africans have been without a couple of key players in Pienaar and Booth and Iceland has been in good form against more fancied rivals.
SAFA’s (South African Football Association) patience is wearing thin and has appointed a three man panel to evaluate the situation over the next few months. Gavin Hunt, Jomo Sono and Clive Barker will be in the unenviable position of making tough recommendations but they must not flinch because South Africa has the ability – their FIFA ranking of 19th in 2001 bears witness to this.
