Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay – the last four – no real surprises there! As Ric says a couple of the high profile teams stumbled in the starting blocks and thier “star” players were more like damp squibs.

The second game of the World Cup at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town was characterized by high energy football played largely in the middle half of the field. Neither France nor Uruguay had many shots at goal which left the final scoreline at 0:0. So Group A is still wide open after the draw between South Africa and Mexico earlier

When Bafana Bafana went ahead 1:0 early with a cracker from Tshabalala early in the second half they shifted up two gears! It was as if a weight was lifted off their shoulders and they played like possessed men! Mexico came back with a late one in the 79 minute through Marquez. South Africa would have been victors had the woodwork not denied
